Frequently Asked Questions

What is Electronic Leak Detection (ELD) and how does it work?

Electronic Leak Detection (ELD) are non-destructive methods using electrical currents to identify breaches and leaks in waterproofing and roofing membranes.

The goal is to find leaks and prevent water damage.

What is it used for?

ELD methods can be used 2 ways:

  • Leak Detection - to find the source of ongoing water ingress - Testing for leaks

  • Integrity Testing - to assess the integrity of waterproofing layer(s) - Testing for breaches

Why choose ELD over traditional testing methods?

Because traditional testing methods such as flood testing of roofs or visual checks fall short.

These methods are outdated and innacurate.

ELD allows for fast & precise testing, at any given time during the building's exploitation.

Why do you need a conductive underlay to perform ELD?

ASTM Guide D7877 sections 4.4 & 5.5 clearly state that the substrate directly/immediately below the membrane must be conductive. When the waterproofing is installed on top of a non-conductive substrate, the addition of a conductive underlay is required to perform ELD testing effectively.

I have a leak coming from my roof, what to do?

If you suspect a leak, it is important to contact our team as soon as possible.

We will conduct a thorough assessment to identify the source of the leak and recommend the best course of action.

Electronic Leak Detection: Why It Matters More Than Ever for Leak Prevention

Water damage isn’t just an inconvenience — it’s a financial disaster.

A single leak can cut a roof’s lifespan in half, lead to costly repairs, and even shut down operations.

Yet, many still rely on outdated, unreliable methods to verify Waterproofing Integrity.

There’s a better way.

Electronic Leak Detection (ELD) Changes Everything

ELD is a non-destructive method that uses electrical currents to detect breaches in waterproofing membranes. Unlike flood testing—slow, destructive, and often inconclusive—ELD is:

  • Instant & Precise – Finds breaches down to the millimeter.

  • Non-Invasive – No need for standing water or excessive wait times.

  • Designed for Prevention – Not just for finding leaks but for ensuring they never happen.

The Cost of Water Damage Is Higher Than You Think

Leaks don’t just affect the roof. They impact the entire building.

  • Structural Damage – Weakens materials, leading to expensive repairs.

  • Operational Downtime – Delays, shutdowns, and financial losses.

  • Legal Liability – Contractors and owners facing disputes over leaks that could have been prevented.

Prevention is always cheaper than repair. ELD makes that possible.

ELD is a no-brainer for Leak Prevention

For too long, leak detection has been reactive — waiting for damage to appear before taking action. That approach is costly, inefficient, and completely avoidable.

For ELD to be effective, a conductive layer must be placed directly under the waterproofing. When designed correctly, it can be leveraged at critical moments during construction and maintenance to prevent leaks before they start.

Leak Prevention with Electronic Leak Detection changes the game.

It provides certainty, ensures waterproofing integrity over time, and eliminates doubt before problems arise.
